The catholic speech providing to La Semana Trágica and El Barranco del Lobo, 1909

Abstract

In 1909, two events marked the historical path of Spanish colonization in Morocco: the protests to the call of reservists in Barcelona, known as the Tragic Week, and the Disaster of The Wolf Ravine, with 750 Spanish casualties. Through the study of the Catholic newspapers, this article aims to analyse how the news of these events were spread by a sector favourable to the colonization of Morocco, and its strategies in convincing the Spanish public opinion of the benefits of the colonial war.
