For the independence of Kenya: the Mau Mau Rebellion
Abstract
The Mau Mau Rebellion was an armed insurrection led by the Kikuyu against British colonialism in Kenya in the 1950s, with the goal of recovering the lands that had been taken away from them since the arrival of the Europeans and achieving decolonization. The fact that the rebels did not only attack the settlers and the colonial authorities, but also segments of the native population who sympathized with the latter, gave the rebellion a double image: on the one hand, a fight against colonial dominance, and on the other, a true civil war. Due to the limited literature in Spanish on the subject, this article aims to be an initial approach in which the causes, development and consequences of the rebellion are explained.
