The rivalry between political Islamism and Arab nationalism in Egypt, from the leadership of the struggle against colonialism to the present day
Abstract
This article analyses the genesis of the confrontation between Arab nationalism and political Islamism in Egypt, as they sought to lead the struggle against colonialism and subsequently to shape their approach to identity and governance in the country.
The confrontation, led at both poles by the Egyptian army and the Muslim Brotherhood, has been a power struggle that has evolved over time. And it owes its importance to the fact that the evolution and spread of Islamism across the Middle East has shaped the region's political history to this day.
