Abstract
This paper presents an analysis of the lacustrine battles that took place on the Lake of Mexico between the Spanish army and the indigenous allies against the Mexica army in 1521. From the perspective of naval history and landscape archaeology, I propose that the strategies used by the Mexica army can be explained from the concept of amphibious warfare and that it is possible to identify lake battlefields through the geographic analysis of documentary sources.
