Abstract
The rebellion of the sepoys marks a milestone in the uprisings of British India, although it has causal relationship with others, its importance by itself is undeniable. Its causes were varied, among them the pauperization of the peasant and artisan population, the limitation of certain sectors to participate in their own government and, of course, the dissatisfaction of the sepoys with the policies of the British East India Company.
Although it had no unified goals in general terms, the various groups of Indian society agreed on the expulsion of the British from their territory.
